Pallet Storage Systems

This is the most widely used system for storing palletised loads due to its versatility and high utilisation factor.
The wide aisles enable powered low level order pickers to pass each other during their picking cycle. Aisles typically are 3m to 3.3m dependant on reach truck used and loading depth for standard GKN type or euro pallets.

This system has the benefits of wide aisle pallet racking but facilitates racks on powered mobile bases providing very dense storage yet 100% accessibility. Widely used in cold stores and other sectors where space is at a premium and costs per square foot are high.

• Using a narrow aisle forklift reduces the operating aisle to circa 1.8m increasing spare utilisation compared to using conventional reach trucks.
• System normally used for full pallet in and out as aisle is too small for order pickers to pass each other.

Drive in racking is used where block stacking would cause damage to product.
The forklift can drive-in to the racking and deposit pallets on rails providing very dense storage in blocks. The design should always take account of stock depth by SKU to minimise histogram effect

Automated stacker cranes are very effective for high throughput and space utilisation with aisle widths down to 1.4m
The cranes can also be used in semi-automated mode for stock checking and similar activities.
They work 24/7 and the downtime is less than conventional forklifts.
Cost effective when land costs, staffing costs and other costs are taken into account on a new facility.

Provides a dense storage system where the pallets are deposited on rails by a battery driven carrier (shuttle).
These systems are available in one and two directional where shuttle is used in conjunction with forklift truck.
Also, system available in fully automatic three directional used in conjunction with pallet conveyors and pallet lifts.
